What is it?
The Game For Life (GFL) Mentoring & Certification Programme recognises and certifies coaches who integrate character development into their coaching. Based on Sport Singapore’s Game For Life framework, it equips coaches with the skills to design values-based coaching sessions.
A key feature is 1-on-1 mentoring, where coaches are paired with experienced mentors for four months to refine their approach to character-driven coaching.
- Competent coaches will receive a SportSG Certificate of Competency.
- Counts towards Continuing Coach Education (CCE) Hours for NROC Coaches.
Who is it for?
We’re looking for coaches who:
- Believe in values-driven coaching
- Want to upskill in integrating character development
- Seek 1-on-1 mentorship with experienced practitioners
- Can commit to approximately 4 months, 20 hours of learning
Eligibility Criteria
- NROC Level 1 Coach (minimum)
- At least 3 years of coaching experience
- Attended either:
- Game for Life Practical Workshop, or
- VPS Certification (from Jan 2021 onwards)
If you don’t meet the above, GFL Practical Workshops are held quarterly at Republic Polytechnic.
Programme Structure
Part 1: Preparation & Alignment
- Briefings & mentor introductions
- E-learning module & pre-readings
- Goal-setting with mentor
Part 2: Observation & Mentoring
- 3x coaching sessions with mentor feedback
- 1x mid-point check-in with fellow mentees
- Submission of session plans & reflection logs
- Ongoing online consultations
Part 3: Competency Assessment & Closing
- Final coaching assessment
- Closing reflection with mentor
- Submission of deliverables & feedback
